How It Works

Everybody is encouraged to participate in the Read-A-Thon – students, parents, staff and other Terraset community members. All participants are encouraged to find sponsors, but you don’t have to! You will still be eligible for prizes. If you don’t want to ask people to sponsor you, then consider making a direct donation yourself, or just asking others for a donation.

You will be asked to keep track of all the minutes you read during October. Students will be able to count the time they read at school too! You should estimate how many minutes for which you will read (an easy way is to guess how many minutes you’ll read per day, then multiply by 31). This will help your sponsors decide what their sponsorship rate should be.

One-time donations should be collected at the time they are offered and per-minute pledges will be collected after the event.

How You Can Participate

Count all the reading you do… books, magazines, newspapers… it all counts! Young students can count the minutes for which someone reads to them! That’s it! Just read or listen to someone reading and you can be part of the fun!

What Students Can Win

Only Terraset students are eligible for prizes. Prizes will be awarded to students who:

• submit their weekly log and reach their weekly reading goal (you have to do both to get the prize)
• log at least 1,200 minutes during the Read-A-Thon
• accumulate the most minutes reading at each grade level
• raise the most money at each grade level
• are in the top class-of-readers… you’ll get a party!
